Leaving a Legacy

I had the joy of spending the weekend away with a few ladies attending the Women Walking with God Conference: Leaving a Legacy.  I really enjoyed getting to know some of the ladies at FBC a little bit better as well as getting refreshed and renewed at the  conference.  I thought I would share some of what I took from the weekend.

First Mom's we are somebodies ancestor!
We count!
What we do does matter.
Mom's are the #1 influence on their children's faith!
Be the parent you want your children to be to your grandchildren.
Be the kind of Woman you want your daughter to be!

Older women need younger women and younger women need older women in their lives!

Titus 2:3-5 3 Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. 4 Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children, 5 to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.

BTW Be the Woman

1. What do I do?  Bible, Read it everyday! Go to it when you don't know what to do!  Seek out God's word for questions to life's answers! Be intentional!
2. Spend time in Prayer! (devoted time each day!) be in conversation with God If you aren't working your spiritual muscles they will get flabby! Praying constantly will build them up!
3.  Be a Blessing to someone each day! Think about someone else today! Reach out to others!

Breaking the Cycle of an unhealthy legacy:
If you engage in the quest for perfection, you perpetuate the problem!
Allow for imperfections in your life!
If you feel less tha perfect you need to go back to the one who created you!
Satan is sneaky and will use whatever sin is your weakness to attack you, to make you feel unworthy, unloved, unimportant!

Psalm 40:1-2 1 I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry. 2 He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.

Mark 12:31 tells us to love our neighbor as ourself!  But we must Love ourselves to do this! We need to model self worth to others.

Showing God's love is a priority!

Philippians 4:6-7 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Psalm 78:1-8

Deuteronomy 6:5-9 (The Message)  5 Love God, your God, with your whole heart: love him with all that's in you, love him with all you've got! 6-9 Write these commandments that I've given you today on your hearts. Get them inside of you and then get them inside your children. Talk about them wherever you are, sitting at home or walking in the street; talk about them from the time you get up in the morning to when you fall into bed at night. Tie them on your hands and foreheads as a reminder; inscribe them on the door posts of your homes and on your city gates.

Psalm 100:3-5  Know that the LORD is God. It is he who made us, and we are his
we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with Thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.

We all have a story!

I think one of the biggest things I will take away is that it's important for me to take time for myself!  We women generally don't do that enough!  But it's important for us to care for ourselves so that we can care for others!  I needed this little weekend away! ( A little longer would have been better!) It's important to remember we need to be a priority in our lives to!  It's okay to take time away, go on dates (with your spouse), have girls nights, and do something nice for yourself so that you can do for others!

What Legacy will you leave?

Have a Beautiful Day!

The Verse that makes me cringe!

The Verse that Made Me Cringe
Lysa TerKeurst
Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God?  You are not your own; you were bought at a price.  Therefore honor God with your body.” 1 Corinthians 6:19 (NIV)
Devotion:
For years, I cringed every time I read a verse about honoring God with my body and my body being the temple of the Holy Spirit.  I wanted to please God.  But did it have to be with my body?  I had set out with great enthusiasm to get healthy so many times but always slipped back into complacency.  I didn’t want to try and just be reminded of my failures again. Then I found the most interesting story in the Old Testament about how serious God is about people taking care of the temple entrusted to them.  It stepped on my toes and messed with my heart in the best kind of way. Before the Holy Spirit was given to us and our bodies became the temple, there used to be physical locations for the Spirit of God to dwell.  In Haggai chapter 1 God’s people had returned from being in exile in Babylon.  One of the first things they set about doing was to rebuild the temple. They started with great enthusiasm and wonderful intentions but slowly slipped back into complacency and eventually stopped their work on the temple all together.  Other things seemed more urgent, higher priorities, and all together more appealing to work on.

Haggai 1:2-8 says:

“This is what the LORD Almighty says: “These people say, 'The time has not yet come for the LORD's house to be built.' " Then the word of the LORD came through the prophet Haggai: "Is it a time for you yourselves to be living in your paneled houses, while this house remains a ruin?" Now this is what the LORD Almighty says: "Give careful thought to your ways. You have planted much, but have harvested little. You eat, but never have enough. You drink, but never have your fill. You put on clothes, but are not warm. You earn wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it." This is what the LORD Almighty says: "Give careful thought to your ways. Go up into the mountains and bring down timber and build the house, so that I may take pleasure in it and be honored," says the LORD.”

Oh this reminds me just how divided my heart can be when it comes to taking care of my body - God’s temple.  Like these Jewish people, I could easily say, “I’m not in a season where it’s feasible to take care of my body.  I just can’t find the time between the kids, my work responsibilities, running a home, paying the bills, and all the day to day activities.”
However, if I was really honest, I made time for what I wanted to make time for.  Just the same, the Jews who returned from Babylon obviously had time to do things they really wanted to do as well.  They found the time and energy to put paneling up in their own homes while ignoring the home of the Lord.  So, where’s the hope? I found it in the challenge the Lord issues in verse 7: “Give careful thought to our ways” and make time to “build the house” so that he may be honored.  Verse 8 says, “Go up into the mountains.”  In other words, escape the ruts of my same old patterns by heading onward and upward.  Give careful thought to each decision I make from here. I realized each decision mattered. So, every day I started waking up and lifting up my willingness to head in a new direction to the Lord.  As I took positive steps, the Lord strengthened my heart day by day.  One good decision turned into two, turned into three, and eventually turned into victory.  Like my Pastor says, “You must do what only you can do.  Then God will do what only He can do.”  Slowly, I rebuilt my temple and learned to honor God with my body.  Me. The girl who used to cringe at the thought of this verse.  Sweet sister, if I can do it, so can you.

Dear Lord, I want to honor You in every way.  I want to honor You with my mind - help me release the excuses.  I want to honor You with my heart - help me make taking care of my body more of a priority.  And I want to honor You with my body - help me look at my body as Your temple and make caring for it a priority.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Dinner & A Movie! OPA!

Friday Night we had another successful Dinner and Movie!  We watched My Big Fat Greek Wedding, and had a delicious Greek Inspired Meal and fabulous Fellowship.  See the pictures below!
(we were having so much fun I didn't get many pictures!)

Some things to think about that we shared during the devotion after the movie:

Matthew 10:29-31 (MSG) What's the price of a pet canary? Some loose change, right? And God cares what happens to it even more than you do. He pays even greater attention to you, down to the last detail—even numbering the hairs on your head! So don't be intimidated by all this bully talk. You're worth more than a million canaries.

I Love this God cares for us even down to the tiniest detail of knowing how many hairs are on our heads!

and one of my favorites:
Ephesians 2:10 (NLT) For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

The definition of the word master piece is the greatest work,  of an artist.  Thats how God sees us as His masterpiece.  One of a kind created in his image!  What could be better than that?

This is the Stuff...

I have had great intentions of blogging at least once a week this whole year, so I figure I am a few post behind!  Sorry I promise to try to do better!  I listen to K love regularly, and unless one of the kids changes the station it's always on in my van.  Anyway, I have been hearing this fun song from Francesca Battistelli, and you can't help but sing along!  (well at least I can't)  As I sing it I think of all the things that drive me crazy!  (I could have a long list pretty quickly, but I'll spare you that because that's not what this post is about!)  As I said I think of all the things that drive me crazy and list several in my head as I sing along!  But as I heard this song this morning on the way to work, I began to think of those things that drive me crazy are things that I wouldn't want to do with out.  What do I mean, ok so I'll list one thing that drives me crazy only so I can help you! :) I get sooo tired of asking,  telling,  yelling at my kids to pick up their stuff! However I was reminded this morning that I am a Mom, and I wouldn't give that up for anything!  I love how God can speak right to us in the midst of all our chaos and busyness and give the exact encouragement we need, right when we need it!  Today was one of those times!  My quiet time reading this morning included Psalm 25 and I always like to look up various bible versions and I loved the message version of Psalm 25: 15. When I take my eyes off of God, thats when I stumble, over my own feet!  WOW!  Talk about a bonk on the head.  These things that drive me crazy, only do that when I take me eyes off of God and his plans for my life, when I get overly caught up in all the busyness of life, I loose sight of the sweet blessings.   So this is me, saying I am trying not to let all those things drive me crazy, and I will try to see the blessings that you can bring from them!

Psalm 25:15 If I keep my eyes on God
I won't trip over my own feet.

Lyrics to This Is The Stuff :

I lost my keys in the great unknown
And call me please 'Cuz I can't find my phone

This is the stuff that drives me crazy
This is the stuff that's getting to me lately
In the middle of my little mess
I forget how big I'm blessed
This is the stuff that gets under my skin
But I gotta trust You know exactly what You're doing
It might not be what I would choose
But this is the stuff You use

45 in a 35
Sirens and fines while I'm running behind
Whoa

This is the stuff that drives me crazy
This is the stuff that's getting to me lately
In the middle of my little mess
I forget how big I'm blessed
This is the stuff that gets under my skin
But I gotta trust You know exactly what You're doing
It might not be what I would choose
But this is the stuff You use

So break me of impatience
Conquer my frustrations
I've got a new appreciation
It's not the end of the world
Oh Oh Oh

This is the stuff that drives me crazy
This is the stuff
Someone save me
In the middle of my little mess
I forget how big I'm blessed
This is the stuff that gets under my skin
And I've gotta trust You know exactly what You're doing
It might not be what I would choose
But this is the stuff You use

Oh Oh Oh Oh
This is the stuff You use

Have a Beautiful Day!

Image

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Genesis 1:27
So God created mankind in his own image,
in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

We are created in God's image but do we reflect that image?  When I look in the mirror what I see is imperfections, all the things that aren't right.  But when God looks at us He see's the Beauty within, because He created us.  When we mess up God doesn't look at us and say "Great she screwed up again" instead He say's "Good she's one step closer to getting it right!" My prayer for you is that you will begin to see yourself reflecting God's image, in how you live each day.  You are Beautiful! Loved!  Created for more! Live your life reflecting His image!

Have a Beautiful Day!
